Unfortunately, the operation, which was planned to capture the top brass of the LTTE, had to be called off and the other teams could not land, leaving these brave Sikhs alone amidst the enemy. Surrounded and outnumbered by the LTTE, they fought till they ran out of ammunition or life, whichever happened first. All but one died fighting. Gura Singh was captured and eventually returned. He brought back the story of those braves who fought till death, knowing they had no chances. He spoke of a last suicidal bayonet attack by three soldiers who were the only ones left alive in the end.
This is one of the most poignant battles ever fought by the Indian Army.
